Educational Choices
LEARN from industry experts and choose from a broad range of education on IBM i, AIX, and Linux topics. The conference will offer over 300 educational sessions, labs, and all-day workshops. We have tracks on hot topics like PHP, Open RPG, Mobile technology, and Cloud Computing; all delivered by the most respected presenters of the IT industry. Hear a new speaker in the morning, attend a user experience session in the afternoon, and network with the experts in the evening. Quite simply, this is where the rubber meets the road for IBM i, AIX, and Linux education. COMMON brings you the education you have come to expect at the Annual Meeting. Sessions are organized into Courses of Study to help you drill down into topic areas.

COMMON Education
COMMON’s Annual Meeting and Exhibition in Austin brings you new and exciting education on Power Systems, AIX, Linux, and IBM i. There will be four full days of educational sessions, hands-on labs plus an extra day of pre-conference workshops.
Pre-Conference Workshops
Add in-depth learning with a Pre-Conference WorkshopWhen you register for the conference, consider signing up for additional education by registering for an all-day pre-conference workshop (additional fee required). In depth technical workshops are either labs or lecture, and take place on the day before the conference (Saturday, April 6, 2013), beginning at 8 a.m. There will be a morning and afternoon coffee break, as well as a lunch break, and all workshops will end by 4:00 p.m. You can sign up for the workshop of your choice when you register for the conference. Space in each workshop is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Labs
COMMON’s computer labs are extremely popular because they provide the hands-on training you need to accomplish similar projects at your company. You may attend any lab – there is no pre-registration. First come, first served!
Traditional labs* are hands-on classes on a single subject, and you stay from start to end. The presenter walks the class through the exercises as a group. Open labs offer multiple lab modules in the same room at the same time on a work-at-your-own-pace basis. With open labs, you can come and go, select as many or as few of the lab exercises offered. All open labs are staffed with experts to assist you.
Course of Study Listing
All sessions at the Annual Meeting are grouped into broad topic categories called Courses of Study (COSs). Each Course of Study covers a specific area such as Application Development, Security, or Systems Management.
The COSs are grouped by operating system, and each session is labeled with the operating system it applies to. So a session may appear under an IBM i or Linux COS, for instance, but may apply to AIX administrators as well. For this reason, make sure to sort the session guide by Operating System “keyword” as well as COS.
