Upcoming COMMON Webinars

Coding HTML and CSS

Presenter: William A. Hansen, Manta Technologies, Inc.

September 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 2010 (Thursdays) - 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm CT.

This webinar covers the following technologies, which are critical to any modern web-based application:
  • HTML, the Hypertext Markup Language, is the basis for communication between a web server and a browser. It is through HTML documents that you determine what a user sees when visiting your web site. Because of this, every web developer needs a basic understanding of HTML coding, even if you use tools to create most of your HTML pages.
  • Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are used to control how HTML, XML, and XHTML elements are displayed by a browser.

By the end of the webinar, you will have the skills you need to develop the HTML pages and forms that are used in typical ebusiness web sites.

Outline
  • Basic HTML Elements
  • Inline Elements
  • Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
  • Block Elements
  • Forms
Audience
  • This webinar should be taken by the individuals responsible for implementing an organization's web site. The audience includes webmasters, content developers, application programmers, and system administrators.

Coding JavaScript

Presenter: William A. Hansen, Manta Technologies, Inc.

October 28, and November 4, 11, 18 and December 2, 2010 (Thursdays) - 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm CT.

JavaScript is a scripting language that a web developer can use within an HTML document to perform functions on the user's machine.  Using JavaScript, you can develop client-side routines to validate input, store data on the user's PC, and perform related tasks that are integral to a typical ebusiness application.

This webinar begins by describing the role of JavaScript in an ebusiness application. It then describes the format of a JavaScript program and its relationship to the HTML document in which it is coded.   You will learn the syntax of the key JavaScript statements that are common to all standard implementations.

The webinar then expands on this knowledge to show you how to use JavaScript statements to manipulate the HTML elements that make up a web page.  You will see how a browser event can cause a JavaScript function to be invoked.  The webinar then covers the properties and methods used to manipulate window, document, and form objects.  The final session of the webinar presents JavaScript examples that you can use in your own ebusiness applications.  In particular, you will learn how to validate form data.

Outline
  • JavaScript Basics
  • JavaScript Syntax
  • Handling Events
  • Dynamically Modifying the Document
  • A Sample Form Validation Program
  • Cookies
Audience
  • This webinar should be taken by the individuals responsible for implementing an organization's web site. The audience includes webmasters, content developers, application programmers, and system administrators.  Knowledge of HTML and CSS is assumed.
Objectives
    • After completing this session, you should be able to:
    • Code the HTML elements to identify a JavaScript program that is stored within the same document or in a separate file
    • Cause a JavaScript function to be invoked as the result of a browser event
    • Code  JavaScript programs to:
      • Check which browser version is being used
      • Display a message to the user
      • Validate form input
    • Read and create cookies
